The installation itself usually takes 2 to 3 working days on a typical lot, spread over roughly a week because the concrete around the posts needs time to set. Everything ahead of that takes longer: the site visit, any city or association approval, the 811 notice and a place on the schedule.
What happens, in order
- Free on-site estimate: we measure and send a written quote.
- Permit, planning approval or HOA sign-off, if your address calls for one.
- USA North 811 ticket, placed at least 2 working days before digging, not counting the day of notice.
- Old fence and footings removed, new posts set in concrete, then setting time.
- Rails and boards or panels go on, gates are hung, and we clean up and walk the line with you.
What slows a fence job down in San Jose?
- Planning review for a fence in a front setback, on a corner lot or in a historic area.
- Late-summer adobe that is too hard to dig quickly, or winter clay too wet to hold a clean hole.
- Old concrete footings, roots and buried irrigation along the line.
- Foothill lots where materials are carried in by hand.
- Custom gates, operators and special-order metal or vinyl.
- A neighbor who has not answered a shared-fence notice.
We are getting a dog in three weeks and have no fence. What is fastest?
Get the estimate booked now. Three weeks has to cover the rule check, the 811 notice and the build. Chain link and plain board fence use materials that are normally in stock, so they go up soonest. If time runs short, we can fence off part of the yard first so the dog has a secure space on day one.
We are putting in a pool. Fence before or after?
Plan them together and finish the fence after excavation. The digging equipment needs a way in, so that section stays open until the shell is done. The barrier must be complete and inspected before the pool gets final sign-off.
My association says fix the fallen panels by Monday and my contractor keeps delaying. Can a handyman patch it?
A handyman patch on your own fence is allowed and will usually satisfy the deadline. Read your contract and let the contractor know in writing what you are doing. In California, someone without a contractor licence may only take jobs under $1,000 that do not need a permit.
We only give a firm price after measuring the line in person. The visit is free and you get the quote in writing. Call (408) 217-2790 or text a photo of the fence.
